Credit Repair Companies are all scams
It is your right within the law to challenge the legitimacy of any bill sent to you. It is simply called validation. By sending a validation letter to a collection agency they must, by law, cease all collection activities until they can validate the debt. Validation means they must submit proof that the bill is still yours, which is not a simply an invoice sent to you but actual proof that the debt relief is yours. Until that is properly done, they can not report the item to the credit bureaus and they cannot ask you for money or do anything which can be deemed further collection activity. Do they do this anyway? Yes they do. This is why it is important to know the laws. Do not agree to pay any bills unless they have been validated. Good credit repair companies can usually very easily get any collection negative items removed if the debts were not validated. If I pay off a past-due account, such as a charge off or a collection account, it will show "paid" and will no longer be negative.
By paying an outstanding, delinquent debt you will only change the account status to a "paid collection," "paid late," or "paid and charged off" - which will still stand out as a negative credit listing on your credit reports.
Believe it or not, paying off a debt (most of the time) will actually hurt your score. The reason for this is that these types of collection accounts are allowed to stay on your credit report for a "maximum" of seven years.
When you have old accounts that are outstanding and showing as a collection or charge off, it is actually a better idea to seek a professional credit repair company so that they can dispute the item. The older the account is the more likely the possibility of deletiing the negative item completely.
If I succeed in deleting a negative item, it will most likey just come right back on my credit report
Although the credit bureaus would like consumers to believe that this is 100% true, the fact is that the creditor usually simply fails to respond to the dispute and the negative listing is in most cases permanently deleted.
